Client Interviews: Practical Implementation Amid Real World Challenges

Starting and maintaining a client interview program can be a challenge, from selling the idea to firm management and motivating lawyers to offer the service to clients (read: trust you with THEIR client contacts) to communicating feedback -- both good and constructive -- and facilitating (read: nagging) post-interview action items.

Schnader Harrison CMO Julie Meyers will moderate a discussion featuring full-time interviewer Paul Malanowski, Director of Client Relations for Saul Ewing, and George Bodenger, a Saul Ewing partner who frequently utilizes his firm's client interview program, highlighting the real world snags and tricks of this often political yet invaluable process.

Julie P. Meyers
Julie serves as the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Client Relations at Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis, LLP, a law firm of 200 lawyers with offices in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Cherry Hill, NJ, and Wilmington, DE. In these roles, she brings to the firm more than a decade of experience working with attorneys on marketing and business development, as well as creating and managing initiatives that enhance client satisfaction. Prior to joining Schnader, Julie served as the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Client Development at Burns White. In addition, she was a Senior Business Development Manager with Duane Morris, LLP for six years. Prior to that, Julie practiced law for 15 years. She holds a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law, and a B.A. in English from Tulane University.

Paul Malanowski
Paul serves as Director of Client Relations for Saul Ewing LLP, a 240-lawyer firm with 10 East Coast offices. Over his almost six-year tenure with the firm, Paul initiated, developed and currently manages Saul Ewing¹s formalized Service Satisfaction Program wherein he conducts face-to-face client interviews and facilitates resulting feedback-driven activities via client teams.  Working more than 16 years in the legal industry, Paul has gained hands-on experience in a wide range of legal marketing services, including drafting business plans, coaching replicas de relojes practice groups and individual lawyers on growing new and existing business relationships, conducting internal business development and service training, creating and implementing MarCom initiatives, and managing teams of marketing/business development professionals.  Prior to joining Saul Ewing, Paul served as a Marketing Manager for Duane Morris, and Marketing Director for Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, where he grew a full-service marketing team from two to 13 professionals during eight years with that firm. Paul is a graduate of the University of Scranton (B.A., English and Communications).

George Bodenger
George is a partner at Saul Ewing who concentrates his practice on healthcare law, with an emphasis in healthcare corporate/commercial law, fraud and abuse, and HIPAA compliance issues and administrative law matters involving federal and state healthcare-related regulatory agencies. Prior to entering private legal practice, George worked for more than 10 years at Ernst & Young in the firm's healthcare management consulting orologi repliche practice where he first developed an understanding and appreciation of the importance of building strong relationships with clients through responsive service. He has been a frequent and active participant in, and strong advocate of, Saul Ewing's Service Satisfaction program since its formal inception just over five years ago.
