Business Development Coordinator – Corporate & Securities Group

Position Summary

The Business Development Coordinator will take a direct role in shaping new business strategies and overseeing their implementation for the Corporate & Securities Practice Group.

The U.S. Corporate & Securities Group has more than 170 attorneys in 12 offices doing significant deals and providing practical, timely advice in a variety of areas, including private equity and venture capital, public and private M&A, and securities offerings and compliance, across the life sciences, technology, energy & natural resources, advertising, media, financial services, consumer products and manufacturing, and other industries.
As a member of a growing and energetic Global marketing team of more than 60 professionals, this position is responsible for coordinating marketing communications activities, as well as liaising with practice management in regard to business development objectives.

Essential Functions

• Partner with Advertising, Technology and Media Practice Group Leaders and other attorneys within the practice group to support firm wide business development, key account management and client relations efforts. In addition, support the general marketing and business development needs of the Corporate and Securities group. Also provide general support to Senior Marketing Management on special projects.
• Develop strong working relationships with attorneys; maintain a high level of day-to-day interaction with members of assigned practice group.
• Plan, coordinate and execute strategic marketing and cross-selling activities to expand legal services provided to and grow revenues from existing and new clients.
• Conduct market research and client analysis to identify industry trends and new business development opportunities; assist attorneys in pursuing leads.
• Coordinate and develop pitch materials, presentations and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs); assist attorneys with presentation preparation by compiling company research, industry-specific expertise and representative experience.
• Draft and edit marketing collateral, including practice area descriptions and attorney biographies for print, website and intranet; post updates to firm website and intranet as required.
• Collect case/matter information and maintain databases, spreadsheets; track new business pitch opportunities in client relationship management (CRM) system.
• Assist in coordination of and strategic planning related to local and national conferences, client seminars and sponsorships, including budgeting and tracking associated costs.
• Monitor and report on Practice Development budgets and make recommendations on programs identified in the strategic plans within the confines of those budgets.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: College degree in Marketing or related field required.

Experience: Three to five years experience in a marketing-related field required, including at least one year of business development experience and demonstrated project leadership. Law firm, professional services, or financial services experience preferred. Previous marketing, public relations, events or media experience a plus, as well as an interest in and ability to understand the legal business environment, including industry terminology. Must have demonstrated experience working independently as well as within cross-functional teams in a collaborative, professional environment.

Skills: Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as willingness to learn database systems. Must be detail oriented, proactive and self-directed with ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines. Sound professional judgment and a high degree of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts. Demonstrated ability to establish effective firmwide working relationships with individuals at all levels. Must be able to react to difficult situations quickly, effectively and diplomatically. Exceptionally strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills are required for this role.

Must be able to operate computer and other office machines such as fax, calculator, telephone, etc.

Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, etc.

Requires the ability to multi-task and handle projects from various individuals. Must also address diverse issues on a daily basis. Must be able to handle stressful situations and interact with various personalities at all levels in the Firm. Must be able to make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Must be able to grasp and apply new ideas.

Sometimes called upon to work in excess of 40 hours per week. Works in a typical office setting. Limited travel may be required.
