This position offers the potential for a hybrid work arrangement with the expectation to work in the Philadelphia office, as needed.

As part of a hands-on, collaborative team, this position is responsible for supporting the business development efforts of Litigation practice groups, industries, and client teams. The successful candidate will be an important part of our Business Development team and will be required to work closely with department and practice group leadership, attorneys, the Business Development team, the Proposal team, and other administrative departments such as Finance, Pricing and Legal Project Management, and Risk Management to coordinate and complete projects.

The incumbent must be incredibly service-minded with a penchant for processes and problem solving and can work independently and maintain a focus on priorities while meeting strict deadlines. A collaborative, consultative, inclusive working style is paramount. Similarly, relationships and the ability to quickly grasp the subtler elements of the firm’s culture are essential. This role will support the firm’s efforts to respond to requests for proposals within the guidelines of firm strategy, business development, and client relationship management goals.

As a Business Development Specialist, some of your responsibilities are as follows:

  • Support the business development needs of assigned Litigation practice groups and initiatives, which includes working with Litigation Department Chair and Practice Group leaders to create and implement strategic business development goals.
  • Preparation of proposals, responding to Requests for Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/RFP), and similar procurement requests.
  • Updates the firm’s experience database with key matters for use in RFPs and proposals.
  • Develop individual attorney business development plans focusing on the expansion of relationships with existing clients, target markets, and prospects.
  • Develop target lists and opportunities for new business.
  • Coordinate business development efforts across practice groups, industries and offices including monitoring and effectively communicating opportunities, outcomes, and follow-up activities.
  • Lead cross-marketing efforts for existing clients and help to improve inter-office and practice communication on business development opportunities.
  • Organize, track, and report on all marketing and business development efforts related to assigned practice groups.

Qualified applicants must possess excellent writing, editing, communication (oral and written), project management, interpersonal, and analytical skills.  Strong computer proficiency a must. The ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines, combined with an intense client service attitude, a strong work ethic and a team player attitude are indispensable.

A bachelor degree in a relevant area with a minimum three years’ experience in professional services marketing required. Significant business knowledge and experience required.

Ballard Spahr offers excellent compensation, a comprehensive benefits package, and a generous paid time off program.
